The Youth Energised for Success (YES) Programme was launched in August 2012 to nurture an environment that ensures employment and stability for Tobago’s young adults.
The Unit collaborates with other Divisions of the Tobago House of Assembly, the private sector and local, regional, and international agencies, to expand and enhance training, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities for young Tobagonians, preparing them to lead in the development and diversification of the economy.
Officers of the YES Programme are committed to positively impacting youths through a variety of professional and personal development programmes. Further, the Unit delivers workshops with well-trained facilitators supported by competent, professional staff members.
Some of the initiates undertaken to fulfill this mandate are:
- Building Opportunities for Sustainable Success (BOSS) Mentor ship
BOSS is an ongoing long-term business mentoring relationship between experienced business owners and a team of young aspiring entrepreneurs. Through individual support mentees are able to access technical and practical support, develop their leadership abilities and provide network opportunities.
- Youth Entrepreneurship
The YES Unit seeks to develop the entrepreneurial mind-set of Tobago’s young adults through improving skills and techniques to enhance creativity and enable private sector expansion.
- Professional Development
These workshops allow participants to incorporate useful and interactive strategies to ensure the requisite behavioral changes for increased efficiency and productivity in the work place.
- Summer Internship
This programme is held annually during the July/August school vacation period. Essentially the summer internship programme enhances the professional skills of participants, affording them the opportunity to have a competitive advantage through real job experiences, volunteerism and capacity building workshops.
